Award winning pub group launches artisan bakery in time for easter!

Today sees Anglian Country Inns open an artisan bakery on the north Norfolk coast, on the site of the award-winning White Horse Holme, at Holme-Next-The-Sea. 

The group has been shortlisted for Best Premium Food at the Publican Awards for the last three years and won it twice. It also won Best Pub Employer at the Publican Awards last month. The pedigree of quality, local, seasonal, sustainable food with sound provenance is long-standing and there are high hopes that this food ethos will make for a phenomenal artisan bakery.  

The creation of the bakery itself was a very ambitious notion – conceived as it was over a coffee in the pub one day, when looking at the old stone barn across the courtyard – the project was daunting. The barn required a huge clearance job, and the project made for a lot of head scratching with an existing pub to keep running and a caravan park next door to keep on side. But, inspired by Toby Doy, Head Baker’s unswerving passion for artisan baking and his clear vision to deliver a product to the community, which was humble, authentic and rooted in the locality, the result was never in doubt.

White Horse Bakery will focus on exceptional handmade small batch organic sourdough products, a range of enticing viennoiserie and ‘proper coffee’.  

Head Baker, Toby Doy said, “Our baking philosophy hinges on the provenance of our ingredients, their locality and sustainability, but also a commitment to process, ‘doing it the right way’, the healthy way, the way it used to be done. That was always the driver for this project. We also are excited to create another community focal point, alongside our award-winning pub – two community hubs nestling side by side, a haven for lovers of the good life and the best baked products on the north Norfolk coast.” 

White Horse Bakery will be baking every day from 8am to 4pm, from Wednesday April 16th, just in time for Easter and those hot cross buns...
